Tuscany is suitable to be visited by bicycle and there are also many opportunities for cycling in the Maremma nearby our farm: there are plenty of routes, both for professionals and for those who simply want to admire the landscape and its natural beauties without having a specific athletic training.
Now we want to describe some interesting cycling routes to explore the land surrounding our farm. We start with a classical, that is the route known as "Balcony on the Maremma". This is a middle route, which will make you pass through the hills that frame the Maremma plain. This path will pass through medieval villages overlooking the plains, the sea, with the ability to appreciate, in a clear day, even the outlines of islands such as Giglio and Elba. This route is one of the best cycling tours in Tuscany, in this page you will find all the details, map and location displayed on Google's interactive maps.
If the previous path is 57 km long and is suitable only for trained persons, the farm holidays Podere Mulinaccio is lapped by another route for everyone: the Maremma cycling route known as "Castle Stone" (Castello di Pietra) is only 16 km long, there are no significant differences in height and stretches of roads with little or no traffic. It is therefore suitable for everyone, ideal for families with children and on the way you can visit the Castello di Pietra, where some of the events told in the Divina Commedia of Dante Alighieri took place. In this page, you can find find the details of the itinerary, with a link to the maps on Google.
Another very simple way, suitable for everyone, is that known as "Cala Violina”, which we recommend for the quality of the landscape and the natural value of the route. You have to go with a mountain bike because there are dirt roads, although very large, well kept and very easy to follow. A large portion of this cycling tour in Tuscany runs along the coast, on a road closed to traffic and therefore accessible only on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. It is within a nature reserve, the environment is intact and there is also the possibility to enjoy the sea, especially in the two most popular creeks, that is Cala Martina and Cala Violina. All the details can be found here.
