Bike Tours in Tuscany - Maremma

The area where the Mulinaccio farm is located has a shape that it is ideal for hiking and mountain biking. In another page of this website we told you about the cycling routes, but now we present the possibilities you have to go through some of the best trails for mountain biking in Tuscany. The Mulinaccio farm is in a favorable position for those who love mountain biking and therefore we provide our guests bicycles to use in bike tours in Tuscany.

One of the first routes we want to present goes through the picturesque landscapes of the Metalliferous Hills (Colline Metallifere). It is a circular one, with the starting point located in Ghirlanda, near Massa Marittima, a few kilometers from the farm. The small village of Ghirlanda has a large free parking, ideal as a starting point for this tour. You find the complete map below:

In total, the route is 37 kilometers long and the predicted time of the trip is approximately 3 ½ hours. The difficulty level is medium and from this special location for mountain biking in Tuscany you can admire the scenery of the hills of the Maremma, with its farms and forests, you can take a look at towns like Massa Marittima, discover the abandoned Montebamboli mines. To get a more complete idea of the difficulty of the route take a look to the altitude at the end of the article.

This is one of the most comprehensive bike-only paths and scenic, but I want to introduce another route for bike tours in Tuscany: it is shorter, but not without difficulties. A very nice route is the one that runs from Accesa Lake (Lago dell'Accesa) up to Casa il Cilindro. The difficulty in this case is represented by the presence of three roads with a considerable slope (up to 22%), while for the rest of the expected travel time is one hour and a half. It is a fascinating journey from the naturalistic point of view and also allows you to make some stops, for example to visit the ironworks (“ferriere”). These structures were fairly common  among the Metalliferous Hills, as they were facilities dedicated to metalworking. Another stop that you can not miss is at Lake dell'Accesa, known for its clean water and its natural value.

For more details, maps and other information on this routes you should visit this page about bike tours in Tuscany, where you can choose from the many routes proposed in the Tuscan Maremma. And for those who want to get away from the hills we can recommend a classic, pretty easy route, which starts from Puntone and enables you to reach the beaches of Cala Martina and Cala Violina: more details can be found in our page dedicated to cycling routes in Tuscany.
